Desert Publications Inc. is looking for a social media strategist to join our team in sunny Palm Springs, California. As an independently owned company, we produce a variety of consumer and custom publications, including the award-winning monthly magazine Palm Springs Life, along with a dynamic website, digital portfolio, major local events, and branded merchandise.
In this role, you will collaborate with both editorial and marketing teams to create and share engaging multimedia content. You’ll monitor key performance indicators, report on campaign effectiveness, and develop strategies to enhance our platforms. A passion for new media is essential, as is a strong interest in visual storytelling and back-end analysis.
We seek candidates who can craft compelling content in a branded voice and effectively engage with our audience both online and in person. You will work closely with the editor-in-chief and director of marketing, coordinating with various teams including editorial, sales, product development, events, and audience development.

Responsibilities Include:
Develop, implement, and manage and a measurable social media strategy
Define, monitor, and report on relevant KPIs to various departments
Create compelling social media content across all platforms (in photo, video, and word)
Audience development and engagement on social and at events
Report on campaigns and adjusting strategies in real time
Monitor trends using the latest social media tools and best practices to keep content fresh and relevant
Ensure all content aligns with the brand’s voice, style, and values across all platforms
Assist in planning and executing social media campaigns, including promotions, contests, and collaborations
UGC and influencer collaborations
Budget management and communication with freelancers
Education and Skill Requirements:
Minimum five years’ digital/social media experience, preferably at a media company
Excellent knowledge of social media platforms and practices
Strong aesthetic sensibilities; photography, videography, and caption writing skills (AP style)
Proven audience development skills and experience researching audience and buyer personas
Experience running and reporting on multiplatform social media campaigns
Excellent understanding of social media KPIs
Practical knowledge of SEO and web traffic metrics
Familiarity with Sprout Social, Later, WordPress, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Premiere
Ability to thrive in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communication, or relevant field preferred
